The first European winters made me look at alpaca differently.

I enjoy the cold. What I don't particularly enjoy is being inside an overheated room, with warm, heavy air around me. A good alpaca garment offers a different kind of comfort: keeping you warm while the air around you can still feel cold and fresh.

That simple experience stayed with me.

Aimara grew from the idea of making clothing I would genuinely want to wear: contemporary, comfortable and well made, using natural fibres and designs that don't need to follow a season to look right.

But good clothing is also about what lies behind it. I wanted to know where the materials came from, how they were made, and who was making them.

Peru is where I come from, and over the years I have developed close relationships with people working in textile production there. Those relationships have given me a direct understanding of the materials, the people and the work involved in making a garment.

Aimara began in 2019 as a small Etsy shop, offering mostly handcrafted pieces made in Peru. Over time, the idea evolved. The new Aimara is a more focused expression of what I have come to value in clothing: natural fibres, considered design, quality and a closer connection to how things are made.

The pieces have their roots in Peru, but their place is everyday life in Europe — natural materials, considered design and clothing made to be worn and enjoyed for years.

That is where Aimara is today.
